Day 13 – A picture of your favorite band or artist

Oh my goodness gracious this is HARD!!!!!!

There are periods of my life marked by different bands. In high school, I had a love affair with Trent Reznor, anguished over boys to the tunes of The Cure, sang many hours and many harmonies w/my sister via Toad the Wet Sprocket and Belly. After that I began having a 15 year affair with The Dave Matthews Band (Dave loves me, just ask him). Depeche Mode, Ani Difranco, The Indigo Girls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Cowboy Junkies, The Cranberries, and more recently Blue October, Ingrid Michaelson, eh sooooo many more–They all got me through some period in my life. However, there is one band that has been and will always be a part of me. I realized how much so on my last trip to Roswell. My siblings and I got together for the most epically awesome hangout night of all time. And we sang. Oh, how we sang… Metallica Rock Band provided us with one of the best times I’ve ever spent with those crazy fools. Being the oldest of five, I knew I influenced my sibs, but I didn’t realize that I’d been able to give the gift of Metallica.

I wish I could take all the credit, but I can’t. They’re just that awesome. Every album has a different meaning to me. Every song on every album has a different meaning–many attached to people. Many have turned their back on them over the years, claiming they’ve “sold out”, but there is no mistaking the influence they have had on heavy metal and hard rock. Unfortunately, growth, evolution, and progression are mistaken as selling out to the narrow-minded. At the end of the day, they are a phenomenal group of musicians, and they have built a legacy that I guarantee won’t die quietly. And personally, I love James, Kirk is amazing, Lars is Danish (he’s a pretty good drummer, too), and Robert is easy on the eyes. They are a collection of awesomeness.
